The National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos,” founded in July 1961 as a Research Centre for Nuclear Research, is today Greece’s largest multidisciplinary research centre with approximately 1,000 researchers. Demokritos maintains the Technology Park of Lefkippos, currently hosting 44 high-technology companies and startups. Additionally, Demokritos has established Innovation Office, an administrative unit aimed at bolstering and coordinating the endeavors of the center's researchers in safeguarding intellectual property rights (IPR), facilitating the commercialization of licenses, fostering the establishment of high-technology spin-off enterprises, and supporting fundraising activities. Demokritos has also established ahedd, the Attica Hub for the Economy of Data and Devices, a digital innovation hub that acts as a one-stop-shop for enterprises looking to enhance their competitive advantage and for public entities aiming to improve their processes and services. Ahedd coordinates SMART ATTICA and participates in SMART HEALTH, two European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs).
